The Lotus Fountain at Kathmandu University was transformed into a magical setting during FashionForward 2025, an event that mixed fashion, business, and culture. Hosted by Aarambha, the annual event of the Business Information Systems students, FashionForward 2025 went beyond a typical fashion show. It brought together emerging designers, models, industry leaders, and cultural performers to celebrate Nepal’s evolving fashion industry.
At first, a fashion show might seem all about beautiful clothes and glamorous runways. However, FashionForward 2025 showed that fashion is also a powerful business platform. It is a place where designers, buyers, retailers, and influencers meet to create new trends and opportunities.


The event’s theme, “From What If to Why Not,” encouraged everyone to think boldly and challenge traditional ideas. This inspired creative designs, performances, and discussions that explored the limitless possibilities of fashion.
Key highlights of the evening included:
- Fashion Sequences:
- Central Fashion Hub: Presented a 15-piece collection with three parts:
- Party Dresses: Modern and stylish dresses perfect for upscale events.
- Lehengas: Traditional outfits with modern twists, honoring Nepal’s heritage.
- Gowns: Elegant and luxurious gowns for special occasions.
- IEC College: Mixed Nepal’s traditional patterns like Dhaka prints and handmade embroidery with modern designs.
- Rae Institute of Fashion & Arts: Showed innovative and eco-friendly designs made from recycled materials and plant-based dyes, emphasizing sustainability.
- Central Fashion Hub: Presented a 15-piece collection with three parts:
- Interdisciplinary Participation:
- 34 models from four different schools at Kathmandu University (Management, Science, Engineering, and Law) walked the runway, showing that fashion brings together people from various fields.
- Cultural Performances:
- Students from Kathmandu University High School performed four traditional dances (Kumari, Newari, Tamang, and Gurung) to celebrate Nepal’s cultural heritage.
- Industry Insights:
- Discussions by industry leaders like Nabin Luitel and Alex Basukala explained the business side of fashion, including trends, sustainability, and market strategies.
- Grand Finale:
- The night ended with 70 sky lanterns released at the Lotus Fountain, symbolizing hope and a bright future for Nepal’s fashion industry. Prarabda Singh Mahat gave the closing remarks, highlighting the event’s message that fashion is a blend of creativity, business, and sustainability.
